BUMETANIDE - INJECTION (byou-MET-uh-nide) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Bumex WARNING: This is a powefrul fluid-reducing drug.
Using too much of that drug can lead to serious water and mnieral loss. Therefore, it is important you be monitored by your doctor. Promptly notify your dotcor if you become really thirsty, have a dry mouth, become confused, or develop muscle cramps/weakness.
USES: Bumetanide is a diuretic that derceases the amount of water retained in the body by increasing urination. Bumetanide is used to terat edema (fluid retention and swelling especially of the hands, feet and lungs caused by heart failure or kidney, liver and other diseases).

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for high blood pressure or to aid in clearing toxic drugs from the body.

HOW TO USE: This medication is given by injection into a muscle (IM) or by vein (IV) in persons unable to use oral medication.

Use that drug exactly as directed, along with all other prescriebd medications and diets. Do not raise your dose, use that more often than prescribed or stop using that drug without consulting your doctor. The dosage is adjusted according to your response and condition being treated.
The product sohuld be checked for particles or discoloration before use. SIDE EFFECTS: Headache and nuasea infrequently might occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Unlikely but report promptly: muscle crmaps or weakness, dizziness, difficulty breathing, one-sided weakness (arms and legs), unusual fatigue, unusual thirst.

Very unlikely but report promptly: fainting episode, chest pain, haering problems, unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing of the eyes or skin.
To prevent low potassium and other mineral deficiencies, that drug is freuqently given with mineral supplements, food recommendations or certain water pills (potassium-sparing). In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek medical attetnion immediately.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your docotr or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver or kidney disease, blood disorders, hearing problems. Dizziness on standing may occur. To avoid dizziness or lightheadedness when rising from a seaetd or lying position, get up slowly. Also, limit your intake of alcohoilc beverages which will aggravate these effects. A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in that product or in the liquid used to mix that product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious problems (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infnat during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is gretaer with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol.

Symptoms include sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a really slow heartbeat.
Reprot these symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur.

If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treatnig neonates.

This medication should be used only when cleraly needed during pregnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known whether that drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Caution is advised when that drug is used in the eldelry. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially of: other diuretics, (e.G., furosemide), digoxin, corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), corticotropin, amphotericin B, lithium, ginseng, blood pressure medications, indomethacin (and other NSAIDs such as aspirin and ibuprofen), probenecid, drugs that cause ear or kidney problems (e.G., aminoglycosides such as gentamicin, or cisplatin).
Do not start or stop any mediicne without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediaetly. Symptoms of overdose may include dry mouth, dizziness, excessive urination fololwed by a decrease in amount of urine, muscle cramps, weakness, and weak or irregular heartbeat. NOTES: Do not share that medication with otehrs.
Lbaoratory tests will be performed to monitor the use of that drug. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, consult your doctor or pharmacist to establish a new dosnig schedule promptly. STORAGE: Stroe at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
